Those traveling to North Dakota will be impressed with its magnificent nature, fascinating parks and landscapes, and culture. North Dakota is a paradise for lovers of outdoor activities and ecotourism, so running races in North Dakota is an excellent opportunity to explore the state.

5K in North Dakota

1. Home Run

Sep 17, 2022 – Saturday
5K run
Grand Forks, ND

The 4th annual Northlands Rescue Mission Home Run will be held on September 17, 2022. You can walk, run, or even ride to help the homeless to get permanent housing and a new life.

The Home Run event includes 3 races: a 5K Fun Run/Walk, a 25-Mile Bike Race, or a 100-km/50-km Gravel Bike Ride. 

For the 5K and Bike Race, virtual options are available. 

All runners will receive a race t-shirt at check-in.

2. Hydrate: Run/Walk for Clean Water

Minot, ND

The Hydrate: Run/Walk for Clean Water will be held on September 24, 2022. The event is a race series that includes a 5K Walk/Run, Family Mile, and Kids Water Challenge.  All proceeds will benefit WorldServe International to give people access to water worldwide.

3. BurliMOT Half Marathon

Oct 1, 2022 – Saturday

Minot, ND

The Scheels BurliMOT Half Marathon will be held on October 1, 2022. It is a unique event that runs through the scenic communities of Burlington and Minot, ND, by way of a beautiful 13.1-mile course that follows the Souris Valley across running/biking paths. The race finishes in downtown Minot.  

Participants for the half marathon, half marathon relay, or 5K that register by September 10th will get a custom BurliMOT shirt.  

Medals will also be given to all half marathon, half marathon relay, and 5K finishers.  

The 5K race starts at Oak Park, located at 1300 4th Ave NW, Minot, at 9:00 am.  The 5K  joins along the half marathon course and finishes downtown. It is one of the most fun 5k races in ND.

4. Fargo Marathon Weekend

May 4, 2023 – Thursday

The Fargo Marathon Weekend will be held from May 4 – 6, 2023, and is a Boston Qualifier.

Founders encourage you to join and commemorate the 18th year of this tradition.

You can join thousands of runners at North Dakota’s largest road race – the Fargo marathon 5k. It is a grand celebration of running. 

With a unique atmosphere, the 5K will admire you. The race starts and finishes inside the Fargodome with an epic post-race party.

The event is capped at 6,000 runners and will sell out before registration closes, so reserve your spot as soon as possible!

5. LeeWok Adventure Race

Sep 10, 2022 – Saturday
10K, 5K trail run
Sawyer, ND

The 5th annual LeeWok Adventure Race will be held on September 10, 2022. The event includes a 5K and 10K race at Black Butte on a trail that runs through ND’s picturesque terrain. You will run on hills, rocks, and wildlife along the way.

Founders encourage to bring a costume. The best costume will get a prize!  

This event is for beginners to enjoy but challenging enough for more experienced runners too. Join this beautiful run in North Dakota!

6. Addie’s Angels Honor the Child

Oct 1, 2022 – Saturday
10K, 5K, 1M ru
Fargo, ND

The 3d Annual Addie’s Angels Honor the Child will be held on October 1, 2022. It is a fundraising event to bring awareness to pregnancy, infant, and child loss.

All proceeds will benefit Addie’s Angels. It is a non-profit organization that provides mental health support to those impacted by postpartum, pregnancy, infant or child loss, birth trauma, and families receiving NICU/Hospital services for chronically or terminally ill children.

You can also choose to complete the run virtually! 

7. FM Halloween Run

Oct 28, 2022 – Friday

Oct 29, 2022 – Saturday
13.1M, 10K, 5K run
Fargo, ND

The FM Halloween Run will be held on October 28 – 29, 2022. Run for your life at Fargo-Moorhead’s premier Halloween race! Founders encourage you to wear a costume. 

The fun race starts with the Friday Fright Night 5K, where you’ll join monsters, goblins, and ghosts on the course!  Then, on Saturday morning, October 29, it’s time to “Trick or Treat.” 

You can choose from a 5K, 10K, or Half Marathon! All events will run the scenic bike paths along the Red River. 

North Dakota Half Marathons

8. Bismarck Marathon

Sep 16, 2022 – Friday
5K run
Sep 17, 2022 – Saturday
26.2M, 13.1M, 10K run | 26.2M relay
Bismarck, ND

The Bismarck Marathon will be held on September 17, 2022, and is a Boston Qualifier. It is USATF Dakotas Championship Race! 

The course will close at 2 pm. The route will be Fast, Flat, and Fun! You will see the breathtaking scenery along the Missouri River.

The race swag includes a custom Bismarck Marathon beanie and matching mittens!

9. Center of the Nation Series – Day 5

Oct 7, 2022 – Friday
26.2M, 13.1M run
Bowman, ND

The Center of the Nation Series – Day 5 will be held on October 7, 2022, at the North Shore Marina, Bowman-Haley Lake.

The course is mostly asphalt with a little bit of gravel and very little shade. The Marathon will be 12 laps. 

The founders will stay until the final finisher crosses the line. Walkers are also welcome!

Pets are not allowed, but you’re welcome to bring a stroller with a small child.

There will be one giant “aid station,” with a lot of food and drinks.

North Dakota Marathon

10. Prairie Series Day 8 – ND

May 19, 2023 – Friday
26.2M, 13.1M, 10K, 5K run
Wahpeton, ND

The Prairie Series Day 8 – ND will be held on May 19, 2023, at Wahpeton.

The course will be a mix of gravel and asphalt roads with little shade. It is a loop course with a turnaround at a zoo. The Marathon will be 14 laps.

Due to the unique multi-loop course, there will be one “aid station” with lots of food and drinks, including fruit, jelly beans, sandwiches, water, hot coffee, and everything in between.
