The Philadelphia Half Marathon was first added to the event in 2006 and has become nearly as popular as the 26.2-mile Philadelphia marathon. It is an excellent option as a test run for first-time marathoners and offers a scenic view. The Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon allows runners to enjoy the Philadelphia Marathon Weekend as they want.

Philadelphia Half Marathon Course

The race starts near the Philadelphia Museum of Art, at the intersection of 22nd Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. From there, athletes head south and east into the center and the Old City, which features some of its most important historical points like the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were debated and approved.

In the first miles of the race, runners will cross Independence National Historical Park, a stretch of several blocks with landmarks that played important roles in the American Revolution. Next, they will run along the Delaware River, along Columbus Boulevard, followed by stretches along Washington Ave and Front Street.

Next, the runners will turn off 13th street and onto Walnut St at the 6-mile mark and cross the river onto 33rd Street. After following 33rd St. for a mile, runners will return to the park and cross the river again on Girard Ave.

The course remains in the park for the last 3 miles of the race, passing the Rockland Mansion and Stone Age in America Statue.
