Event details

Welcome to Capital City Marathon, one of the best marathons in the Northwest.

Located in fun and friendly Olympia, Washington, we feature a beautiful course with rolling hills, enthusiastic volunteers, a festive post-race event with food, music, massage and swag.  We are a Boston Marathon qualifier with a loyal following of marathon veterans, newcomers and everyone in between.


Start Location

Washington Street between Legion Way and 7th Avenue, adjacent to Sylvester Park.

Age Restrictions

Marathon runners must be at least 16 years old.

Course Time Limit

6.5 hours. Marathon runners must maintain a pace of 14:30 minutes per mile (or faster) to complete the event before the course closes at 1:30 p.m. Runners unable to maintain a 14:30 pace should enter the Half Marathon.

Pacers

Pacers will be available. Pacer target times will be posted on the race pages closer to race weekend.

Timing Chips

Timing Chip is built into the race number. No Chip—No Time! Race Number is to be pinned to the front of your running shirt and must be visible.

Certified Distance

The Capital City Marathon is the standard marathon distance of 26.2 miles. The course is sanctioned and certified by United States Association of Track and Field (USATF) and is a Boston Marathon qualifier.

Course Description

This beautiful course of rolling hills winds through Olympia, the surrounding countryside and neighborhoods and then finishes with a fast half mile downhill.

The course will be clearly marked and monitors will be at all major intersections. Mile markers will be at each mile point.

Aid Stations will be placed at two-mile intervals and Mile 25, featuring drinking water and electrolyte replacement fluid. Sponge stations will be located at various points along the course.

Sani-Cans will be located at the starting area and every two miles on the course.
