🚀 Westerwood 5K 2025: Record-Shattering Results Are In
Hello friends,
Thank you for supporting our great neighborhood race. The 2025 Westerwood 5K was an overwhelming success, setting new records across the board. We welcomed a massive 455 participants—a 33% increase in registrations over last year. Your enthusiasm also fueled our team participation, with 18 teams and 245 members registered. We are so grateful for your participation and generosity, and we hope you will join us again next year for the Eighth Annual Westerwood 5K.
💰 Impact & Fundraising: 52% Growth in Total Contributions
Because of the tremendous support from our entire community, including participants, sponsors, and countless volunteers, the event raised a grand total of $11,216 for our incredible local nonprofits, Greensboro Urban Ministry and BackPack Beginnings. Since 2019, the Westerwood 5k has raised over $35,000 for these vital local charities. Additionally, thanks to your past support, in 2025 we completed the Lake Daniel Park bike maintenance station.
This year's success was achieved by a combination of the Westerwood 5K race and your additional participant contributions, resulting in the total contributions increasing by 52% compared to last year. The substantial $8,000 donation ($4,000 donated to each charity), generated directly from the financial success of the race, was up 33%! This, combined with the most striking growth in your generous participant donations of $3,216, surged by an astounding 139% over last year!
If you wish to further donate to BackPack Beginnings or Greensboro Urban Ministry, click the donate button at the top right of this message. Especially during this season, your continued support—through extra donations or volunteer time—enables them to expand their vital work in our community.
🤝 Partners and Volunteers
Special thanks go to our longtime partners and volunteers, including Grimsley’s Blue Steel Drumline, the First Baptist Church, and to our presenting sponsors Borough Coffee and Down Home North Carolina. A special thank you to this year's new addition, the Randolph Community College Therapeutic Massage program, students who provided relaxing massages and handed water out to finishers. Thanks always to Nancy and Gary Blevins for the inspiring and humorous signs and course displays, and to Buffalo Creek Running Club who organize packet pickup, set out the course signage, and assist with race weekend items.
🏅 Race Records
Congratulations to our new men’s record holder, Nick Amos of Summerfield, who ran the certified 5K course in a time of 15:42.21.
