The Second Line to End HIV
On Saturday, October 5, 2024, hundreds of people will gather at Hunter's Field Park for the annual AIDS Walk New Orleans, which is now named The Second Line to End HIV a walk and run to raise funds and awareness for HIV prevention, care, and advocacy. The event is organized by The PoZitive2poSItive Initiative, a leading community based organization of HIV linkage and education in the region. The 2nd Line to End HIV aims to support the vision of ending the HIV epidemic in Louisiana by 2030, as outlined by the state's Ending the HIV Epidemic Plan. According to the Louisiana Department of Health, there are over 22,000 people living with HIV in the state, and nearly half of them reside in the New Orleans metropolitan area. The state also ranks among the highest in the nation for new HIV diagnoses, especially among Black, Latino, and LGBTQ+ communities. The event will feature live entertainment, food trucks, health screenings, community resources, and a special appearance by community activist and advocates, who will kick off the walk with a motivational speech. Participants can register online at or on-site on the day of the event. Registration is $35 , but donations are encouraged. Partial proceeds will benefit The PoZItive2poSitive Initiative and its programs, such as HIV testing, PrEP, linkage to care, and other initiatives. The 2nd Line to End HIV is a great opportunity to show solidarity with the HIV community, honor those we have lost, and celebrate the progress we have made. Together, we can make a difference in the fight to end HIV. Join us on October 5, 2024 and walk with us!
