Mini Loop
Gather your family and friends for a fun-filled day focused on the power of community, determination, and hope. Turn your steps into funds raised as you walk along a one-mile loop through the beautiful Fresno City College campus. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, settle down for a tasty picnic topped off with delicious ice cream. Complete the experience with games and activities at our family and carnival zones. Make memories while you make an impact.
Faster walkers can choose to do laps around the one mile course, while others may opt to do the shorter loop (approximate distance 0.13 of a mile). A seated exercise option will also be available. Following the designated route, you'll have time to complete as many loops as you want. Get extra motivation and have your supporters make fundraising pledges based on the number of loops you complete instead of giving a flat donation.
Neurological disorders are now the leading cause of disability globally. Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the fastest growing neurological disorder in the world, with 90,000 people diagnosed each year in the United States. The prevalence of Parkinson’s disease in the Central Valley is nearly five times higher than the surrounding area. There is no cure.
Move better. Live better. A walk to benefit Parkinson’s disease is an event to raise awareness and illuminate the impact that PD has on quality of life. With your support, this event will raise funds to provide local resources for those battling Parkinson’s disease and their care partners.
Seventy percent of profits will be allocated to provide local services that benefit the Fresno Parkinson's community. Funds will be set aside for two purposes: 1) A Parkinson's exercise tuition fund. 2) Self-care days for caregivers to someone with Parkinson's.
Because exercise has been shown to be the only tool capable of slowing the progression of Parkinson's disease, an exercise fund will improve access to a crucial resource and enhance quality of life for the Fresno Parkinson's community.
Providing care to someone with PD can take a significant amount of effort and time. Caregivers often spend so much of their time and energy on providing care for their loved one that they don't get to focus on themselves. While we recognize that giving them the space to focus on themselves on a couple of days throughout the year is not nearly enough, we hope that it will remind them that they are seen and not forgotten amid the struggles of the loved one they care for.
Thirty percent of profits will go to the Parkinson’s Foundation to advance research, develop better treatments, and provide additional support services for those battling PD.
