Event Details

The “Boots on The Ground” race is a family oriented, pet friendly, charity fun walk or 5k run. Hosted in corporation by both Lt. Charles A. Meyer, American Legion Post 86, Newton, NJ and Sussex County Community College, Newton, NJ.  The SCCC campus is in Newton, NJ, the county seat of Sussex, spanning across the rolling hills of this county.

 Lt. Charles A. Meyer, American Legion Post 86, a community-oriented post, serving veterans and their famines, of the greater Newton area by supporting Boy Scouts of America, student academic grants and donations to local first responders.

 Sussex County Community College a future leader in NJ Higher Education as a premier provider of 21st-century learning opportunities, professional training, and skills development to meet the needs of the people of our community in a globally competitive environment.

The mission of the event is to bring attention and subsequently, support to the veterans of Sussex County.  Both Lt. Charles A. Meyer, American Legion Post 86 and Sussex County Community College believe veterans transitioning back to civilian life appreciate the support of a welcoming community. Join with us to show them, we welcome and support them.  Your entrance fees will go a long way in providing educational resources and economic support for our veterans.

The race consists of both a 5k race and a fun walk. The course, 3.1 miles, is around the parameter of Sussex County Community College campus, with the charity walk, 2.1 miles, along the same course. The campus, as with all of Sussex County, is composed of rolling hills offering scenic views of the greater Newton, NJ., making it a great place for this event.
