Join the Washington DC Metro HBCU Alumni Alliance, Inc. for our 9th Annual Hybrid 5K Run/Walk and John R. Lewis Community Day at the St. James Wellness and Entertainment Complex or at any location!
Our virtual 5K run/walk can be run (or walked) from any location you choose. You can run, jog, or walk on the road, on the trail, on the treadmill at the gym or on the track . You get to run your own race, at your own pace, and time it yourself.
If you choose to join us in-person for a fast out-and-back course in Springfield, VA, this is a great opportunity for a low-key morning run with your fellow HBCU Alum. Come fellowship with your local HBCU Alums during a relaxed race, filled with family and friends from the local community. There is plenty parking at the facility and overflow parking is available in the neighboring business.
Race Details - Please Read Before Completing Your Registration
Participants:
- Children: Ages 3 -12 by day of the event
- Adult: 13 and older by day of the event
Registration includes: Race Bibs, Commemorative Medal and Shirt
- IN-PERSON PARTICIPANTS: Race swag will be provided during packet pick-up (MUST REGISTER NO LATER THAN MAY 19th). If you register after this date, shipping charges will apply and your swag will be mailed 30-45 days after the race.
- VIRTUAL PARTICIPANTS: Race swag will be mailed prior to the race (MUST REGISTER NO LATER THAN MAY 19th). If you register after your swag will be mailed 30-45 days after the race. Shipping charges will apply.

While participating in events held or sponsored by the Washington DC Metro HBCU Alumni Alliance, Inc., (“DCHBCUAA”), consistent with CDC guidelines, participants are encouraged to practice hand hygiene, “social distancing” and wear face coverings to reduce the risks of exposure to COVID-19. Because COVID-19 is extremely contagious and is spread mainly from person-to-person contact, DCHBCUAA has put in place preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19. However, DCHBCUAA cannot guarantee that its participants, volunteers, partners, or others in attendance will not become infected with COVID-19.
By participating in this event, I acknowledge and understand the following:
- Participation includes possible exposure to and illness from infectious diseases including but not limited to COVID-19. While particular rules and personal discipline may reduce this risk, the risk of serious illness and death does exist;
- I knowingly and freely assume all such risks related to illness and infectious diseases, such as COVID- 19, even if arising from the negligence or fault of the Released Parties; and
- I hereby knowingly assume the risk of injury, harm and loss associated with the Activity, including any injury, harm and loss caused by the negligence, fault or conduct of any kind on the part of the Released Parties.

RACE BIBS AND SWAG
All participants will receive a commemorative HBCU Run the District 5K t-shirt and medal (swag).
VIRTUAL PARTICIPANTS:- Swag has been mailed for ALL VIRTUAL participants who registered prior to May 19th , 2022.
- Swag will be mailed 30 - 45 days after the race for participants who registered on or after May 20th , 2022
IN-PERSON PARTICIPANTS:
- Participants who registered by May 19th, 2022 can pick up race swag and race bibs at PACKET PICK-UP.
- Participants who registered on or after May 20th, 2022 can pick up RACE BIBS ONLY. Shirts will be mailed 30 – 45 days after the race.

Due to the high volume of participants, we highly recommend that you pick up your swag prior to the day of the event.
ALUMNI ROW and VENDORS - OPENS at 6:30 AM
- ALUMNI ROW – This is the place for HBCU alumni, family, friends, and supporters to socialize and become reacquainted. HBCU Alumni chapters will have tables set up to provide information about each of the respective colleges and universities they represent; this is also an opportunity to meet other HBCU alumni in the Washington, DC Area.
- VENDORS - Vendors will be available and open for business to all attendees.
REMINDERS
- If you are picking up a registration packet for another person, you will be required to provided the name and confirmation number at packet pick-up.
- DO NOT bend or fold the race bib to ensure timing accuracy
- Bring personal water bottle and towel (IF APPLICABLE)
- NO OUTSIDE FOOD or BEVERAGE
RACE POLICY
Safety of our participants is our top priorty. In the event of adverse weather conditions, the Race Director, in communication with the local law enforcement and the city, may delay the event or cancel the Run/Walk.
The event may be delayed or canceled due to Tornado Warning, Tornado Watch, Thunderstorm, Heavy Rain, or any extreme weather condition. Light to moderate rain is not considered an Adverse Weather Condition.
If the event is canceled more than 12 hours before the event, we will notify participants via the race website, email and social media. If the event is canceled less than 12 hours before the event we will notify participants via the race website and social media. Participants will be notified via email where they can pick up their race packets if they have not already done so.
