Every year this race is held in memory of Brooklyn Boone.

Who is Brooklyn Boone?

Brooklyn Shea Boone

Brave,Strong,Beautiful

Brooklyn was a tough, brave, kind, loving, courageous, beautiful young girl with big dreams. She was very athletic and had artistic talent as well. She had a smile that could light up a room and dreams to become a nurse. On June 1st, at just 14 years old Brooklyn and her family found out she had Hodgkins lymphoma. For 2 years her and her family battled this aggressive disease. Brooklyn was known for her warrior spirit... “fear the warrior that fights with a smile” was key to her battle. Brooklyn and her family never gave up on each other, or on God. Just a month after her 16th birthday she won her earthly battle and went to be with the lord on October 18th 2017.

Every year the organizers of this race chose a family affected by cancer to receive the funds raised from this race. In 2019 the recipient was the Leukemia and Lymphoma society as part of team "Brooklyn's Miracle" in memory of Brooklyn. In 2020 the recipient was a 5 year old, Georgia Mae Webb a bright eyed, Jesus loving, beautiful angel who fought stage 4 neuroblastoma and won her earthly battle and went to be with Jesus just a week after the race. In 2021, the recipient was high school student Mary Pierce, from Georgia who is in remission from stage II Hodgkins Lymphoma. This year the selected recipient is Ashlyn Perkins.

Who is Ashlyn Perkins?

Ashlyn is an amazing girl.  She has kept a smile on her face and inspired so many people over the last year and half.  She is 5 years old and has been fighting a cancer diagnosis since May 15, 2020. She was initially misdiagnosed and mistreated for the wrong type of cancer for over 2 months.  (She was originally told that she had a Wilms Tumor but after all the rounds of chemo, the tumor didn’t shrink, it grew.). It wasn’t until July 1, 2020 that we received the official diagnosis of Stage 4 high risk neuroblastoma. After receiving the correct diagnosis, Ashlyn went through 3 surgeries, 6 rounds of chemo for her correct diagnosis, plus 5 rounds of the wrong chemo, 14 rounds of radiation, and 5 rounds of immunotherapy.  In July 2021, she began participating in a one year clinical trial for a neuroblastoma cancer vaccine. She completed 4 vaccines.Even though the odds were against her, In November, 2020, Ashlyn was declared to be NED, which means showing no evidence of disease. She has to have scans done every 3 months and sadly, in September 2021, her scans showed that Ashlyn had relapsed. She had several small spots in her left leg above her ankle. She just completed round 4 of her treatment plan, which includes chemo, radiation, and immunotherapy to get rid of the cancer in her leg and hopefully the rest of her body so she can be free of cancer once and for all. Ashlyn’s strength, courage, joy, and Hope are inspiring to all who know her and love her.  We have seen her endure more than any of us ever will.  We will never give up fighting for her, supporting her, loving her, and praying for her, as well as her family.

This race will be held virtually so you can participate anytime from anywhere between March 11th and March 13th 2022.
