Ovarian Cancer
Every 24 minutes, a woman is diagnosed with ovarian cancer. In Oregon and Washington combined, there are about 800 new cases yearly. These loving individuals are our grandmothers, mothers, sisters, wives, and friends.
Ovarian cancer is the deadliest of all gynecologic cancers and the fifth leading cause of cancer in women. The vast majority (85%) of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer are diagnosed in stages III and IV; just 46% of these women live beyond five years.
Call to Action: Teal Ribbon Fun Walk
In light of these dismal statistics, we must do more to raise awareness about ovarian cancer. Toward this goal, OCAOSW is hosting the 3rd Annual Teal Ribbon Fun Walk, scheduled for June 21, 2025. There is no screening test for ovarian cancer, and knowledge can be essential to early detection. Survival rates improve with an early-stage diagnosis, so people should know the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer.
This 1.5-mile walk around the Oregon Zoo allows families, survivors, friends, and supporters to unite for a common cause. View the walk map here.
