About the Lone Star Stampede

The Lone Star Stampede is a beloved tradition that brings together the Houston community, the University of Texas at Austin alumni, and supporters for a day of running, fun, and giving back. 

Hosted by the Texas Exes Houston and Katy Chapters, this annual event features a 5K, 10K, and Kid’s Fun Run designed for all ages and fitness levels.

More than just a race, the Lone Star Stampede is about making an impact. Proceeds from the event fund scholarships for local students, helping them achieve their dreams of higher education.

As proud 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, the Texas Exes Houston and Katy Chapters are committed to fostering the next generation of Longhorn leaders while strengthening the bonds of our incredible community.

  • Location: Cane Island Community, Katy, TX
  • Distances: 5K, 10K, and Kid’s Fun Run

Pre-Race Packet Pickup:

Thursday, February 6th
Eureka Heights Brew Co: 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM 941 W 18th St, Houston, TX 77008

Can't make it? Race day pickup available until 7:45 AM at Cane Island. Please bring your ID

Race Day Timeline:
8:00 AM – 5K and 10K run start
8:10 AM – 5K walk start
9:15 AM – Kid’s K start
9:30 AM – 5K & 10K Awards

Route: The course is a double loop route within the Cane Island Community in Katy, Texas:

  • 5K course is one loop
  • 10K course is a double loop
  • Kid’s K is also an out-and-back on the course

Parking: Cane Quarter 

5K & 10K Awards:
Overall open Male and Female.  

Misc:

  • 5K and 10K runs are chip timed.
  • The 5K walk and Kid’s 1K are not timed. Parents may accompany kids on Kid's 1K. 
  • No pets on the course.
  • Strollers in the 5K walk only.

Inclement weather: The event will be held rain or shine. However, should additional weather conditions prevail race day that it is deemed unsafe for runners and volunteers, the run will be cancelled and all fees will be donated to the Houston and Katy Chapter Scholarship fund.  The race will not be rescheduled for 2026.


NO REFUNDS OR TRANSFERS due to race cancellation from weather conditions.    

T-shirt sizes cannot be guaranteed for registration after January 13th, 2025.
